Yonkers resident Justin Calcano, age 21, was killed on Thursday, Sept. 14 after being struck by a Metro-North train near the Yonkers train station, according to Yonkers Police Detective Sergeant Frank DiDomizio.
Calcano had been reported missing to Yonkers Police on Thursday, Sept. 7 after being last seen in the Bronx. The department then continued to look for him until the day of his death, when Yonkers officers and detectives helped MTA Police identify Calcano as the victim, DiDomizio said.
MTA Police have not yet released further details about Calcano's death.
In the days since his death, Calcano's family has begun a GoFundMe fundraiser page to raise money for Calcano's funeral and burial expenses.
On the fundraiser page, Calcano's family expressed a desire for further investigation into his death, which they believe may have been the result of foul play.
"We strongly believe that there is foul play involved with Justin’s sudden and confusing disappearance, upon finding certain things after Justin first went missing," wrote Angel Calcano, who also added, "Someone did something to Justin."
As of Tuesday, Sept. 19 around 10:45 a.m., over $5,600 had been raised out of a $12,000 goal.
